REMEMBER the film Loretta, which marked the last team-up of Gabby Concepcion and Ruffa Gutierrez?

The movie, which had Ruffa playing the title role, created a controversy of sorts as it played a major role in the 1994 Manila Film Festival scam.

The victory of both Gabby at Ruffa as best actor and actress, respectively, was questioned. For a time, both were considered persona non grata, when the truth of the matter is that they had nothing to do at all with the scandal.

It took a while before they, especially, Gabby, were able to redeem themselves. Obviously, time really has a way of healing wounds.

Well, Gabby and Ruffa are back in each other’s arms sa pelikulang The Mommy Returns (dating Ded na Ded Ako sa U), a Regal Entertainment presentation due for release on May 9.

Directed by Joel Lamangan, the film also stars Pokwang.

“I may not be playing the title role in the movie dahil si Pokwang ang Mommy Returns,” ani Ruffa, “ganunpaman, I’m glad na kasama ako sa cast, dahil it is about a mother’s love for her kids and how her love for her children transcends hanggang kamatayan.

“But Mommy Returns,” ani Pokwang, “is comedy all the way. I return to earth after my death, dahil nagkimkim ako ng galit kina Ruffa at Gabby, who plays my husband.

“Nag-asawa kaagad si Gabby, si Ruffa nga. Kaya, naging madrasta siya ng mga anak namin ni Gabby. Sa takot kong baka maltratuhin niya ang mga bata, I keep haunting Ruffa in a way na nakakatawa.

“I must say the movie is a treat for mothers.”

Eugene Domingo credits the film Kimmy Dora as the one which helped her earn the status of genuine star and comedienne.

Kimmy Dora emerged box-office champ. Small wonder, therefore, that its viewers were keen on immediate sequel to it.

Its producer, however, who included, among others, Piolo Pascual, chose to take time before coming up with a sequel, Kimmy Dora & The Temple of Kiyeme.

Also directed by Joyce Bernal, the second Kimmy Dora … is a comedy but with a touch of horror. May added attraction ang movie since may mga eksenang kinunan sa Korea.

Again, what will make this second Kimmy Dora … different from the first one is that it shows Eugene in numerous scenes na magaganda ang damit.

Na bumagay, ani Eugene, sa kasalukuyang maganda niyang pangangatawan.

“Workout to death ako, para lang ma-achieve ko ang measurements na gusto ko. And I must admit, it paid off,” pahayag ni Eugene habang showing off her body na, well, wika nga, bago ang kurbada.

As usual, Ariel Ureta plays Kimmy Dora’s kunsintidor na ama.
